My First Winter Wonderland in the Swiss Alps
Embarking on an alpine detour, our journey led us to the breathtaking landscapes of the Swiss Alps. It all began when our Philippine adventure was disrupted by the unyielding storm in Siargao. Determined to turn this setback into an opportunity, we set our sights on my partner’s homeland. A place brimming with mystery and anticipation.
As we arrived amid a winter wonderland in January 2022, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement and awe. It was a season I had never experienced in my life. Little did I know that this serendipitous turn of events would not only unveil the captivating beauty of Switzerland but also grant me the extraordinary chance to meet my partner’s parents.
Meeting his parents and introducing their grandchild was a dream come true. Yet, the freezing temperature made it hard to fully enjoy the snow – my poor toes protested! Note to self: invest in proper winter clothing next time. Still, the allure of Davos in winter was undeniably magical, making it worthwhile.

Exploring Swiss Autumn: Glimpses of Golden Landscapes
Returning to Schweiz after just two seasons felt like a dream come true. Amidst the Swiss Alps in all its autumn glory, I was moved to tears. Even more so than when I first witnessed the snow-capped landscapes. The mesmerizing golden hues that adorned every corner captivated my heart, making it impossible to tear my gaze away. As someone who grew up in a tropical and third-world country, the experience of autumn and snow held a magical allure, two unique seasons so foreign to my reality.
In Switzerland, they’ve got these high mountain passes. Which they aptly call “no-go zones” during winter and early Spring because snow decides to throw a roadblock party. But picture this: when the snow finally decides to take a hike and melts away, and you hit the road for an autumn adventure amidst Switzerland’s already breathtaking landscapes. It’s like flying on steroids! Trust me, it’s a jaw-dropping tenfold allure, and I was totally hooked!

Autumn Awesomeness at 30: Celebrating in Zermatt
When life handed me a Zermatt instead of Rome for my birthday, I couldn’t help but chuckle at the cosmic twist. Little did I know that this so-called “settle” would turn out to be an absolute dream come true. Sometimes, the universe knows better than we do, and I’m grateful for the unexpected magic that unfolded in the breathtaking embrace of Zermatt’s wonders in autumn.
Oh, and let me tell you, if you’re anything like me and you’re constantly searching for cosmic hints and serendipitous signs, then hold onto your hat! When I was making my way up to Gornergratt, I stumbled upon my daughter’s name, Leonie, playfully etched on a cable spool. And if that wasn’t amusing enough, a cheeky number 30 greeted me on a random metal post at the viewpoint. The universe surely has a sense of humor! So, call me crazy, but Zermatt knew how to throw a quirky birthday bash!

Swiss Spring to Sunny Summer: A Seasonal Journey
Shortly after the winter season, we returned once again to Switzerland and witnessed a breathtaking transformation. The once snow-covered landscape had been replaced by vibrant wildflowers, stretching across acres of land. While the majestic Alps remained, the abundance of flowers gave the place an entirely new appearance, as if transported to a different country.
It seemed like a tropical country as people donned sporty attire, eager to explore the picturesque surroundings. As for me, I embarked on a refreshing and delightful summer adventure, hiking up the mountain in search of the most unique wildflowers in the mountain of Davos.
Upon reaching the mountain peak, we were greeted by stunning views that extended beyond the horizon. My instructor began to unpack the equipment so we could paraglide down the valley. As we took off, an exhilarating surge of adrenaline coursed through my veins. Suddenly I was flying high in the sky with a guy from Air Davos while my partner and daughter eagerly awaited my descent below.

During my Swiss sojourn, I couldn’t help but notice a tinge of sadness in the locals, perhaps growing weary of their own enchanting land. It dawned on me that no matter how captivating a place may be, without a change of scenery, it’s easy to overlook the treasures right before your eyes. A gentle reminder to embrace every moment of this breathtaking journey.
Switzerland, a realm of wonder and beauty, has become a cherished destination where I am blessed to wander at will. Surprisingly, it wasn’t initially on my bucket list, as I thought I might be aiming too high. But fate had other plans, and here I stand, amidst the mesmerizing drama of its landscapes.
